NC Central Law School - Costa Rica Poster

This is a poster I worked up for the Bioethics program within NC Central’s law school. They are hosting a bioethics related trip for law students this summer in Costa Rica. I worked up a couple more posters, which I’ll post soon, but this was my favorite.

Insureall NC

This is a site I did for a small insurance company in North Carolina. They were recently bought up by a bigger fish, so I decided to post the site before it gets eaten too! (Click for full view)

Art Walk Poster

A poster I worked up for the March 2008 Art Walk for Flywheel. See my post on The Duke Institute for Brain Sciences for the source of inspiration! (Click for full view)

MLK Poster

A little something I worked on before my trip to Thailand last year. A department at Duke commissioned us to come up with a poster celebrating MLK. It was a tough committee to design for, especially on such a sensitive subject. (Click for full view)

Duke Institute for Brain Sciences

Here are a couple concepts I worked up during a rebranding collaboration with the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences. DIBS is an umbrella organization that focuses on integrating “brain sciences with the biomedical sciences, social sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, humanities, law, business, mathematics, computer sciences and engineering.” Tall order, I know. The common thread I found through all of these partnerships was the new technologies that made brain sciences relevant for all of these fields of study. I really pushed this concept in the first concept above. This second concept is a bit more whimsical, but also alludes to the organizations mission. I really liked this concept as an ad campaign & poster series rather than a logotype.

Center for Health Policy

We do a lot of work for universities in & around North Carolina. In most situations we are working directly with a certain department/school within the university. One common frustration I witness again & again from these clients is their desire to push their department towards having a distinguished brand but end up getting shot down by university committees & style guides. It’s a tough spot to be in, because while staying true to the University brand is important, these people crave showcasing their own identities. This is a concept I worked up for The Center for Health Policy at Duke University. I think it finds a happy medium by giving the center it’s own legs to stand on, while not straying too far from Duke’s image.

White Sage Art Leasing

In March of last year Flywheel was approached by a startup art leasing company called White Sage. In many ways they were an ideal client, as they dealt with artists everyday & knew the value of creativity and design. I approached this project from both sides of the thematic spectrum. This was part of my first concept; it has a very homegrown, organic look that fused really well with the White Sage mission & business model. In the end the client ended up picking up my second concept that had more of a gallery feel, and really let the work speak for itself. You can see it here.

RE:VAMP

Downtown Durham Development

Downtown Durham developer & architect Scott Harmon is the mastermind behind ReVamp. I loved the name & it fit Scott’s personality perfectly. I knew the logo needed some bite, Scott would settle for nothing less. This was the first concept I came up with & it turned out to be the winner in Scott’s eyes. Nothing finer than a happy client. Oouuu-wee!

The Grill that Got Away…

I was rummaging through some old files yesterday & I stumbled on some gems I’d forgotten about. These are a couple concepts I developed early last year for the latest venture by celebrity chef Marvin Woods. I really loved working on this but the job ended up slipping through our fingers because of cost… bummer.
